Short version: you can watch the road without an account, we never store your IP address, and advertisers only ever see totals — never you.
We create a row recording that a visit happened: when it started, when it last checked in, how far you drove, whether the device is a phone, and your country. Country comes from our host at the network edge — your IP address is never read or stored, and we do not record your browser’s user-agent string.
Your settings — the clock, your odometer, chosen vehicle, landscape, radio station, and the list of ads you have recently seen — are kept in your browser, not on our servers. Clearing site data removes them permanently.
This is the part people ask about, so plainly: ad measurement is not linked to you. When a billboard is genuinely on screen — inside the frame, close enough, and held for at least 400ms — we add one to a daily counter for that billboard. The stored record is a placement, a date, and a number. There is no row anywhere connecting a person to an advert they saw.
Advertisers are shown those totals and nothing else. They never receive a visitor list, a profile, or an identifier. The public figures at /stats are the same numbers they get.
Sign-in is handled by Clerk, which holds your email and name. We additionally store your Clerk user id against your odometer and preferences, so your mileage follows you between devices. If you buy advertising, we keep your email and what you spent, because we are required to keep invoice records. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see your card. If you give us an X handle when you buy a board, we publish it next to that board and on the leaderboard, because that is the only thing it is for — leave it blank and nothing about you is published. Ask us and we will remove it.
We use Vercel Web Analytics for aggregate traffic figures. It is cookieless, respects Do Not Track, and does not identify individuals — which is why this site has no cookie banner. We set no advertising or tracking cookies of any kind.
Raw visit records are deleted after 90 days. The daily advertising totals are kept indefinitely, because they contain no personal data. Invoice records are kept as long as the law requires.
If you are in the UK or EU you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and you can object to processing. We do not keep a record of which adverts any individual clicked — those counts exist only as daily per-board totals with no person attached. Deleting your account removes your profile and unlinks your past visits so they remain only as anonymous counts. Email max@sweetwaterlaboratories.com and we will action it. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
